Tech Tip:
Solenoids With or Without R-Terminal
Before the introduction of electronic ignition, 12V vehicles required a R-terminal that bypassed the ignition resistor for easier starting. Modern electrical ignitions do not use a ballast resistor, and therefore do not require this terminal. When updating from an earlier starter to a racing starter without the R-terminal, simply do not connect this wire.
