6.21.06 Knoxville, TN – Veteran Audio Competitor Tommy McKinnie takes Bass Racing SPL Competition to a whole new level. McKinney started the season off with a bang having victories at this years Spring Break Nationals and Steel Valley Regionals.
McKinnie set some of the highest musical SPL averages the world has ever seen. Averaging an earth shattering 158.5dB musically over a 30 second period, is no small task. The energy created by this system literally pulls McKinnie’s truck apart at the seams. “It’s like a 400lb. wild gorilla is inside trying to get out!” says McKinney. How many times have we heard the story “My buddy’s car is so
loud it broke the windshield!” We’ve all heard it, but how many can say that we’ve actually seen it? Spectators at this year’s Audio X dB Drag Race
in Florence, AL got to witness it first hand as McKinnie attempted to raise the bar once again. After just a few seconds into the 30 second round of competition McKinnie’s windshield exploded. Sending shards of glass streaming down the hood and onto the ground. Spectators watched in amazement as McKinnie managed to maintain 158dB as the windshield flapped in the breeze. What does it really take to shatter glass
on command you ask? Well, for Tommy, his weapons of choice are 22 Powermaster 16V Batteries, 2 Powermaster XS Volt Alternators, 12 – 2,000 Watt Amplifiers, and 24 – 12” Subwoofers. This massive amount of equipment is crammed into a 1992 Isuzu Pickup, weighing in at nearly 8,000lbs. McKinnie’s achievements have made him the undisputed King of Bass.
